The Mission
MicroTau's mission is to improve the efficiency of the global aviation fleet, saving billions in fuel and megatonnes of CO2 every year. We need a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer to lead the definition, design, demonstration and delivery of manufacturing systems that meet product and manufacturing requirements. You will report to the Manufacturing Systems Team Lead.
What You Will Do
You will lead the technical definition, design, demonstration, and delivery of manufacturing systems and processes
Mentor MicroTau engineers and technical personnel to improve team proficiency in the development of manufacturing systems
You will drive the development of repeatable and reproducible manufacturing processes, ensuring that yield and throughput targets are met.
You will lead design projects, quantifying absolute risks for technical factors and projects whilst providing stakeholders with regular project updates
You will lead complex manufacturing system mechanical, optomechanical and control systems designs, generating bill of materials and relevant design files, ensuring that manufacturing systems designed will be reliable and reproducible.
Define and review tests and experiments to verify and validate manufacturing system performance.
Review the work of other manufacturing system engineers, growing the capabilities of the broader team
What Success Looks Like
First Month: You will be introduced to one of our core manufacturing systems. During this time you will review experimental and test documentation related to the rig. You will also get to know the team and company culture.
First Six Months: You will conduct a number of optomechanic experiments, testing to select optomechanical components for the next generation rig that meets all the manufacturing criteria required for the scale manufacturing of our aviation product.
First Year: You will have completed the design, assembly testing and handover of our core manufacturing system for scale manufacturing. You will have developed a manufacturing process that will be used in our scale manufacturing production line. This process will contribute to the production of MicroTau’s By this time you will be considered the subject matter expert on our mastering processes. Parallel to this you will have also been considered a mentor to many team members, helping them to achieve their professional goals.
About You
Degree in a relevant discipline (Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering).
2+ years work experience in a similar or relevant field.
Highly skilled in designing mechatronic systems, familiar with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and control systems such as PLCs (Beckhoff preferable).
High attention to detail particularly for component selection in mechanical design as well as driving a problem solving process.
Had prior experience designing mechatronic systems to position optical components down to micron accuracy.
Why You Should Join MicroTau
Impact: Aviation is one of the hardest to abate industries, and its share of global emissions is only growing. Join our mission to improve the efficiency of the global fleet and save millions of tonnes of CO2 every year.
Technology: Our technology leverages the drag-reducing properties of shark skin to make aircraft more efficient. You'll be exposed to expertise and developments in materials, photolithography, fluid dynamics, and scale manufacturing.
Team: Our team focuses on achieving our mission. We live our values of lift over drag, active transparency, and changing the boundary conditions, and we welcome new team members who want to do the same.
Corporate Jet: We have (most of) a corporate jet. It won't fly, but it sure does look cool.
