We’re all about
drag reduction.
We’re a team of aeronautical engineers, manufacturing engineers, chemists, and business specialists solely focused on delivering aerodynamic efficiencies to our customers in the commercial aviation and defence sectors. We do this because a sustainable approach is the right approach.
We work with some of the largest aviation OEMs, airlines, and research institutions to bring our drag-reducing technology to the aerospace industry to save billions of dollars in fuel and hundreds of millions of tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Mission
MicroTau’s Mission is to improve the efficiency of the global aviation fleet.
Aviation Emissions are Growing
The aviation industry is responsible for 2% of global carbon emissions, or around 1 billion tonnes of CO₂ every year. This is a small slice of the pie, but unlike virtually every other sector, it is growing in size - growth in aviation activity has outpaced efficiency improvements. This is because the technologies most capable of significantly curbing aircraft emissions are either prohibitively expensive or decades away from maturity and integration. Meanwhile, demand for air travel continues to grow.
The World Needs Impactful Solutions - Now
Around a trillion dollars’ worth of fuel-burning assets are currently in operation and will be flying for decades to come. MicroTau provides a near-term carbon emissions abatement solution for the aviation industry while delivering value to the customers who need it most. This allows us to make real efficiency improvements without the green premium associated with many low-emissions technologies, enabling faster, wider adoption and real climate impact - now.
Values
This set of values was created collaboratively by our whole team. They are intended to provide a guiding hand for the work we do, how we do it, and why.
Change the Boundary Conditions
Working on tough and novel problems means we get stuck - a lot - and that’s OK when you have the right tools to work through it.
How?
Change the Boundary Conditions.
Redefine the problem. Review the boundary assumptions. Reimagine the topology. Embrace the turbulence.
Active Transparency
We believe that open and proactive communication is key to building relationships worth keeping. We practise active transparency with each other and with our customers because we recognise that clear and sincere conversations create better outcomes for all parties.
Practicing Active Transparency internally means that we don’t spare each other the truth, especially when it’s uncomfortable.
Sometimes there are reasons where full transparency is impossible, but when that’s the case we will be transparent about that and why.
Lift Over Drag
Drag represents inefficiency, whether on planes or in an organisation.
We don’t vibe with this - we prefer Lift.
We are here to improve the lift-to-drag ratio:
all of our work serves to either advance and uplift our global aviation efficiency mission, or to reduce the friction of getting it done.
This applies to both our mission and our culture:
Lift over Drag means that every effort is made to boost the aptitude of the team and the atmosphere of the workplace.
